Seventh Workshop on

We expect to have 10, planned, half-day sessions, on different-topics within the general framework of QFT/QCD, and the most recent developments in HE Physics.  At this writing, we have nine sessions with confirmed chairs, as follows:

We intend to have one Session devoted to the newly-discovered, acceleration of the universe, and one Session to very recent work dealing with Strings, Branes, and QCD; invitations to two possible Chairs have been tendered, and we await their response.  Finally, we wll hold one "general" Session for latest results in a variety of topics, for papers which cannot find room in any of the other, nine Sessions.

Small, efficiency apartments will be available at the "Pierre et Vacances" complex (on the eastern edge of Villefranche/Mer, about a kilometer's walk, near the beach, to the conference site in La Citadelle) at off-season rates equivalent to approximately $350/week; this can provide a significant economy for those bringing a family, or wishing to share lodgings.  For those who prefer a conventional hotel, we will include a list of those available in the several levels of comfort, complete with approximate price ranges and telephone and fax numbers.  All reservations for lodgings should be made directly by the participant with Pierre et Vacances or the Hotel of his or her choice; and all reservations should be made as early as possible.

Special rates apply if you stay longer than one week.  There are:  "Studios" which sleep (comfortably, but little privacy) two persons; or apartments "2 pieces" that can sleep 2 with privacy or 4 with little privacy;  and a few apartments "3 pieces" sleeping 3 with privacy, 6 without [with a private bedroom for two and a double bunk bed in a separate room, in addition to one sleeping accommodation of the "studio"]

A small charge is made when one arrives for cleaning upon departure and for a midweek change of linen; but the total price is most reasonable for the comfort and convenience of a small, efficiency apartment.

P et V will accept reservations for the period 5-10 January 2003, but will not acknowledge them until early September.  We will have reserved for our group 10 studio plus 10 larger apartments;  after these 20 reservations have been filled, another ten or more apartments will be able to be reserved on a space-available basis,. Two things are important:  1)  To get one's reservation in early, before October 1st, if possible; and 2) When contacting Mme. Portmann, be sure to identify yourself as a participant to the "Seventh Workshop on QCD", so that your name can be entered on to her list of participant reservations.  Mme. Portmann will respond to you  with accommodation details and a request for an advance  payment by credit card of 25% of the total week's rental; the balance will be payable, by credit card, one month before arrival.

N.B.  There are two P et V in the region, one in Villefranche/Mer, and the other too many kilometers away, at Cap d'Ail.  Be sure that your reservations are made for P et V in Villefranche/Mer.
 

REGISTRATION FEES: . An Advance Registration will be held on Sunday afternoon, 5 January from 3-6 p.m., in the Entree Salon of Pierre et Vacances, with the regular Registration held at 8:30 a.m. in the Salle de Conference of La Citadelle, on Monday, 6 January.

The Registration Fee for this Workshop is US$250 or Euro equivalent, in cash, traveler's checks, or personal checks drawn on a French or U.S. bank; credit cards cannot be accommodated.  Checks drawn on a U.S. bank should be made out to Seventh Workshop on QCD; those drawn on a French bank should be made out to H. M. Fried.  All payments should be sent, or given to Mary Ann Rotondo.  If paid at the Workshop site, the Registration fee will increase to US$275, or Euro equivalent.

As before, the fee will cover a Banquet dinner for each participant, Proceedings of the Workshop to be published by World Scientific, and daily refreshments at the Workshop site.  An additional $40 will be charged for each guests to attend the
banquet.

GENERAL REMARKS: As before,  our Workshop  will be held in La Citadelle, a 16th-century fort whose store rooms and grounds have been converted into l`Hotel de Ville (City Hall), several excellent museums, and - of specific interest to us - perhaps the most stunning Salle de Conference ever built, a converted store room, with plush-blue seating for approximately 150 participants, air conditioning and all electronic amenities; and with walls of living rock.

Villefranche/Mer is one of the most beautiful Mediterranean towns imaginable, with approximately 6000 winter inhabitants living in homes built from near the water's edge right up into the surrounding hills of the Alps Maritimes, as this Departement is called.  Villefranche excels not only in beauty but also in science, with research establishments (including the Oceanographic Physics and Chemistry labs of the Universite de Paris 6, and a world- class Marine Zoology Lab) quietly tucked away near its boat-repair area (la Darse).  Open throughout the winter (to serve the weekly arrivals of tourists aboard the cruise ships that make an over-night stop in the deep-water harbor of Villefranche/Mer), excellent restaurants abound.

Nearby are three, major scientific enterprises:  l'Observatoire de Nice, located high in the nearby hills overlooking Nice, with a world-class, Dynamical Systems Group;  la Faculte de Science of the Universite de Nice, located in Parc Valrose, in the heart of Nice; and the huge, science city/research park of Sophia Antipolis, situated on the Valbonne plain north of Antibes, just off the main autoroute west of Nice.  For those wishing to avail themselves of more stressful forms of entertainment, both Nice and nearby Beaulieu have elegant Casinos, while a dozen kilometers to the east of Nice lie the shining lights of Monaco/Monte Carlo.  Public transportation, by train and bus, is rapid and frequent, and car rentals can be easily arranged.


 
CONFERENCE PROCEEDINGS: Proceedings of the Conference will be published by World Scientific. Participants will receive a copy of the Proceedings, with cost included in the registration fee. Manuscript preparation: Total length of manuscripts may be computed from the following Rule-of-thumb: 5 minutes of workshop presentation time = 1 manuscript page.  The deadline for submission of manuscripts is March 15, 2003.
